Fab! Readers,
It has been a while since I have written for The Fab Empire but I am so happy that I am back to inform you about something new that is taking Baltimore by storm. What is it you’re wondering? It’s Ear Candy at Teavolve. I’m not sure if you would agree with me, but Baltimore is in desperate need of a “new” type of night life. Going to the club just doesn’t seem to “cut it” anymore. The ritual to get dressed to go out almost seems ____________(fill in the blank with a negative word). Sometimes I just don’t feel like putting on a face of makeup, sexy dress, or stilettos for that matter.
Sometimes, actually most times, I want to go to a spot and come as I am. Whether that’s pumps and my rouge lipstick or jeans and a t-shirt. I want to feel comfortable and not feel stigmatized based on my outfit. I would like to be able to sit back, order and appetizer, and sip on a cocktail while listening to acoustic sounds or a spoken word piece. Am I asking for too much? Well if I am, my prayers have been answered! There is no need to travel to D.C.
to find such an oasis because we have one at home.
Teavolve is a new minority owned tea house (not a coffee house!) located at 1401 Aliceanna St. It offers a great menu with more than affordable prices. The crowd is very diverse. I noticed the obvious. There were Blacks as well as Whites, couples, college students, and professionals. Everyone was welcomed and you could feel it in the atmosphere. The featured artist for the evening was Kentavius Jones, whose sound reminds me of John Mayer mixed with Lenny Kravitz. He performed all original pieces that the audience could relate to. I definitely enjoyed listening to him; it was like candy to my ears.
As everyone knows, if its too good to be true then chances are….it is. There were a few things that annoyed me about the event. It did NOT start on time. Ugh that really annoys me. Must everything start on that “certain” time? My last grievance was the sound guy was getting on my last nerve! He kept fiddling with the wires and it was affecting the artist’s performance. Talk about distracting.
Well, if you’re a person who would like a change of nightlife scenery and you are ready for a more cultured experience. Then check out Ear Candy at Teavolve in your own backyard. Big shout outs to Gypsy Soul (Kay), Andrea from WEAA, CW54 , and Media Minds.
The next Gypsy Soul event is The Appetizer featuring Kimberly Nichole at Eden’s Lounge on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Tickets are $10 in advance.
