Recap: Aaron Maybin Presents “Celebration of the Arts”
By Bmore Fab • February 22nd, 2010
I was excited to attend Aaron Maybin’s “Celebration of the Arts” this weekend as it had been the talk of the town for weeks. The event kicked off in Washington D.C. at The Park at Fourteenth, which was packed out with over a thousand party attendees.
On Saturday, the festivities moved to Baltimore starting with an art workshop for the youth at the Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center (1100 E Fayette Street). Saturday evening included a private art exhibit and dinner at the Tremont Grand Hotel (225 N. Charles Street).
NFL players including members of the Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens were all spotted at the art exhibit and dinner. Que formally of Day 26, Laz Alonso, Angel Lola Love, Ty (Real World D.C.) and Denyce Lawton were other notables spotted at the events. Unfortunately, celebrities who were said to be attending like Amber Rose, (Kanye West girlfriend) wasn’t able to attend due to being sick. Some of the guest who were slated to attend didn’t make it.
The art exhibit included beautiful pieces from both national and local artists. Aaron Maybin unveiled his art work at the exhibit and proceeds collected went to Haiti. The dinner was held on the second level of the Tremont Grand and included a selection of steak, chicken, and salmon, served with asparagus and (purple?) mashed potatoes, which was absolutely delicious. Dinner was served between 9-10 p.m and patrons enjoyed music by a very talented group of high schoolers.
The dinner ended around 11 p.m. and guests headed around the corner to Velvet Rope (200 E. Redwood) to get their party on. I was pleasantly surprised at how incredible the club looked, decked out with a red carpet outside. Inside the venue, it looked amazing.
Professional dancers in white shorts and baseball caps got the party started as the people entered and D.J. Jay Claxton and D.J. Quicksilva were on the 1′s and 2′s all night. Maybin arrived close to 12 a.m. in a Maybach with a driver (which everyone loved). By 12:30 a.m. the first and second floor (V.I.P.) were packed and patrons danced the night away.
Overall, the ladies of Echelon Life did a fabulous job of putting on an event that is unique to what the urban community in Baltimore is used to. It was innovative, creative and extremely necessary. They remain the premiere example of what nightlife in charm city should be.
“I’m doing this because the youth need something else besides violence as an option. Art is an outlet and it’s important that we keep it alive.” -Aaron Maybin

All very true, but I don’t take that view myself. I will go along with the more traditional view. But I definitely support your right to say it. Interesting anyway.
